What We Believe

The foundation of FBC Warrensburg is built on four pillars:

Love God, Love People

Authentic Community

Make Disciples

Sacrificial Generosity

  1. Love God, Love People: The simplest but most powerful of the pillars. We feel that we are called to Love God with all that we have and with all that we are. By doing so, our love will naturally extend to loving others as we love ourselves.
  2. Authentic Community: We firmly believe that being part of a community is not merely a privilege of following Jesus but an essential aspect of our faith. By connecting as a community of believers, we can support, encourage, and help disciple one another in our journey towards Jesus.

  3. Make Disciples: Jesus’ final command to his people was to go out and make disciples. Our passion is to lead people to Jesus Christ and then walk with them on a journey of deepening their relationship with the Lord. We believe that this responsibility isn’t limited to the staff or leaders; every individual who has asked Jesus into their hearts is now called to become a disciple maker.

  4. Sacrificial Generosity: The final pillar is summed up in the statement, “All that we have, all that we are, today, for the Gospel.” We believe that as believers we are called daily, not to seek the selfish desires of our hearts but to be sacrificially generous to all who are in need. And not just with our money or material possession but also with our time and energy.

Essentials We Believe

  1. About God

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God is all powerful and all knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future. He has eternally existed in three personalities:  the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  These three are co-equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1, 26, 27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Corinthians 13:14

  2. About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, is fully divine and co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross.  He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, fully God and fully man bringing reconciliation between God and man. Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11;  1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13
  3. About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ.  He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation.  He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.  He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved.  As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18

  4. About The Bible
The Bible is God’s Word to us.  It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.  Because God inspires it, it is the divine truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5
  5. About Human Beings
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. God created males and females as the supreme objects of His creation, gifting them with unique differences to work together in bringing glory to Himself. The gift of gender, with its diverse strengths and abilities, is an integral part of God’s goodness. While each individual possesses tremendous potential for good, we are all marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God known as “sin.” This attitude separates us from God and leads to numerous challenges in life. Genesis 1:26-30; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2
  6. About Salvation
Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it.  We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works.  Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty.  When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved.  Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into their life by faith. Romans 6-23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6, 1;12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1
  7. About Eternal Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity.  If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot ‘lose’ it.  Salvation is maintained by grace and the power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.  It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security. John 10:10; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25; 10:10, 14; 1 Peter 1:3-5
  8. About Eternity
People were created to exist forever.  We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation.  To be eternally separated from God is hell.  To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life.  Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.
  9. About Baptism

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Saviour, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.

    Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; 14:22-26; Luke 3:21-22; 22:19-20; John 3:23; Romans 6:3-5

  10. About Marriage

Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God’s unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church. The husband and wife are of equal worth before God, since both are created in God’s image. The marriage relationship models the way God relates to His people. A husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the church. He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, to protect, and to lead his family. A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. Genesis 1:26-28; Matthew 5:31-32; 18:2-5; 19:3-9; Mark 10:6-12; 1 Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:21-33;Colossians 3:18-21; 1 Peter 3:1-7
